So it’s the time of year again, with National Novel Writing Month coming in November. So with this month being Preptober, I was seeing who is interested this year as I know a couple of people here have participated before. For those who don’t know, National Novel Writing Month is an event each November, where the goal is to write a 50,000 word novel in a month, any subject, any genre. It was created years ago to encourage people who may have always wanted to write a book but either lacked the confidence or just couldn’t get started. The idea is that you’re writing at such a frantic pace, you don’t have time for self doubt or writer’s block. This is my fifth year, though last year I pulled any cheap tricks to win because I had such a hard time concentrating. This year though I’m challenging myself with something a little out of my comfort zone in hopes of finishing this time. The web site is here if anyone is interested: nanowrimo.org/dashboard

I don't know if I'll do NaNo this year. I've started a story on my blog which is taking a lot of writing time to keep going. I've thought about doing a Sci-Fi story around a construction worker in space & am eyeball deep in research on living & working in zero-gee for extended periods of time.
I might cheat & call my NaNo project an anthology & just keep a word count of what I write in November - but that doesn't seem to be in the spirit of writing a novel.

Actually the only rule is to hit 50k by November 30, so your anthology idea works just fine.

Okay, I'm in. I'll be writing 50,000 words of blog posts for my WHAT campaign Zhu Paand, Mistress of Time. That means in addition to writing, I'll be playing a lot of WHAT encounters to advance the story line. While the writing and game play will all take place in November - photographing & publishing the encounters may stretch into December & January. You can track the progress here: Atomic Floozy NaNoWriMo Project

In the middle of the seventh day, I'm at 12,000 words and beginning to feel a little tired of writing. How are everyone else doing?

I took a mini vacation to get a head start. Currently I’m at 17,000, but that’ll slow the closer I get to thanksgiving.

This second week has been rough. It seems I'll do anything to get out of writing, even cleaning house! I learned years ago my creativity runs in spurts and drips and I'm tapped out at the moment- I'm still on track to finish & at 21,869 words as I start my day, but I am loathing writing like when I used to go to bars to meet people for s-- well, it wasn't pretty.

I understand the feeling. I think I write for a few minutes, then pike around YouTube or something. The main reason I’m where I am is because I really want to write my story.
I’m at 35k at the moment, hoping to hit around 45k by Saturday because thanksgiving week is going to be busy.

At the start of day 20, I'm a little over 32,000 words, thanks in large to one post about a New Beginnings Chillin' encounter. The encounter took less than 15 minutes to play, but turned into a 5,000 word post because of the setting. Instead of setting the encounter in your typical bar, my Star went to a sex party. It was amazing the number of words you could write about a sex party without actually describing sex. If the old adage about writing what you know is true, then all I have to say is that I will neither confirm or deny I've ever been to a sex party, or two....
