I'm posing a few posts on the 1st WHAT encounter I'm playing. It's over several parts so the reader won't be overwhelmed with details. The first part covers the prep work I did to set up the encounter. WHAT 1st Encounter - Part 1

The second post is up which defines the Star and her band. Sorry for all of the prep posts before getting to the actual game play, but I thought it might be helpful to some players. WHAT 1st Encounter Part 2

Great, clear, posts. Very helpful and entertaining, and you haven’t even got to the action yet.

Thanks, when I'm playing a new game, I like to show new players not only how to play, but also how they can make the game really their game. The fact that there isn't a 300 page bestiary, doesn't mean you can't use creatures or troop types that aren't in the core rule book.
And more importantly, if you get stuck, the forum is a great place to ask questions and try new ideas.

Good stuff. Definitely given me some ideas. Looking forward to the game.
Ive played one dungeon crawl from WHAT. The big bad was a Troll. All I can say is if you have an inexperienced party, think twice about entering Troll lairs! After what looked to be a fairly empty dungeon save for an adventuring party on the way out, I bumped into the Troll and a group of Goblins. The Troll is Rep 6 and the Goblins had the luck of the Gods. It was carnage...

Playing with one Character is good until you learn the rules.

Yep. Its good. I like the tension in turning over cards as opposed to rolling on a table. Whats it going to be!!? (Flip) phew, empty. Its funny how every time I thought the deck would run out I’d find stairs going down. It kept me guessing. I think I might reduce the ER to 3 on the way out (if its not already) to make the retreat less of a potential nightmare.

The final part is done - the actual game play! It took me a little longer, because I had problems getting lighting for the table top, so I had to photograph each board separately. lWHAT 1st Encounter, Part 4

Well done! I really like the simple visuals, which you're always good at. Really captures the action.

That was a great AAR. Especially the pictures. Thanks.
at the end of the Dungeon...
”The next card I drew was a red card, so my party can leave the dungeon without encountering any more PEFs”
I interpreted the end sequence the following way. Draw a card from the unused card stack for every card of the dungeon in reverse order taking the most direct route out of the dungeon. Ignore all results except possible PEFs.
Can we have some clarification please Ed. I certainly wont complain if I’m wrong!

If you do it your way they could find ore stairs, etc. WEould they then find PEFs?

To be clear. I drew a card for each card of the dungeon at its completion minus the Big Bad room.
I only acted if it was a black card from 2 to 10.
I then resolved a possible PEF. This meant I would have had four PEFs to resolve but I died on the first. I was curious so I traced my way out of the Dungeon and just kept all the PEF cards so I knew what I was potentially up against. Are you saying I have it wrong?
