I have the 5150: Book One, 5150: First Contact, and 5150: Infestation that I picked up about six years ago. I'm wondering if I would be good using these, or do I really need the newer books. What is truly different? I hear about a PEF test, and like that idea, but am unsure how that relates to the Contact test in Book One.
I mostly want to play solo using my Tyranids, Necrons, Imperial Guard, Tau, and Grey Knights that I have. I have a flyer, land raider, and three armored suits for the Grey Knights, and some of the larger Tyranids. I also have a few of the suits for the Tau, but nothing large.
Thank you all.

Depends on what you want. The newer mechanics are a lot smoother and faster with fewer tables to consult. Really good for 2-3 short battles in the same amount of time as a 5150:Book One game. If you want a bit more grit (different impacts vs different armor types and lots of different reaction tables), then stick with what you've got.

If you like what you have and been using you could stay with it. Like Stryderg said the mechanics are smoother and play is quicker. I'd download CR 2020 for free to get a glimpse at them.

Thank you, Ed and stryderg. I will start with what I have, but will definitely download CR2020.
Hey, Ed. Years ago you were working on adapting Friday Night Fights to a barroom brawl type game. I was helping at one point with playtesting. Has anything progressed out of that?

For larger battles, look for a copy of 5150 Battalion Commander. Rebel Minis sells it.
