Hello!
I decided to play a quick pick up game today before work. Took a German veteran raiding party on a patrol with aim to destroy British 4.2-inch mortar position in a fortified clearing in sector 2. My rep 5 leader took a squad of rep 4 smg junior NCO, machine gunner, loader and rifle grenadier on densely wooded map in sector 9.
They proceeded straight north through the woods that lead to the road that split the map in half through sector 4-6. On the road they managed to ambush and neutralize 5 men British patrol with accurate mg fire; 4 out of action and one captured. (I edited enemy encounter table by half for smaller games). Junior NCO stayed behind to guard the prisoner.
As my unit was getting closer to enemy mortar position they stumbled upon an enemy lmg team that failed to spot them first and was therefore rifle grenaded and neutralised; one wounded one dead.
Mortar position failed to spot approaching german raiding party and was also quickly neutralized by mg, smg and rifle and rifle grenade fire in single turn; 1 killed, 2 out of action, rest fled.
After completing the objective, squad rejoined the junior NCO that was guarding the prisoner. Together they headed back to the woods in sector 9 to escape the map.
Just as they entered the woods entire enemy squad appeared on the road just behind them where they encountered the first British troops. Again British failed to spot the elusive Germans first and after some fire exchange and some dead brits my squad made a successful fighting retreat and escaped the map.
It was an exciting game with plenty of extra generated PEFs especially towards the end of the game where I was almost wiped out by last minute large British patrol PEF resolution. I must say I've had incredible luck with dice rolls. Having rep 5 leader was a big advantage for my side and an mg42 with its 6 shots felt almost OP. Game felt like opening scene from Cross of Iron!
