Anyone got any thoughts on the best rule sets for European battles and campaigns in this period? I'm looking at Muskets and Shakos and Morale Napoleon (with possibile Musjets and Mohawks for outpost skirmishes.) Any suggested adaptations? Also has anyone any thoughts on sieges, as the seem important in the period? Thanks

I'm working on a project using Muskets & Shakos for the "klienkrieg " or "petit la guer" engagements that could also be used to game a "wing" or division in a larger battle. I'm currently painting 10mm figures for the engagement at Hoya between an allied force under the Hereditary Prince against a French force under the Comte de Chabo.
I've chosen Muskets & Shakos because the battles & skirmishs fought as the "little war" were mostly conflicts involving a few battalions & squadrons. I think Muskets & Shakos should play well as a battalion oriented game. I think if you want to do large mass battles involving several regiments, then you would want to look at Morale Napoleon.
You will have to do some rule tweaking whichever rule set you choose. The Seven Years War troop organization and tactics were not the same as the Napoleonic wars. For example armies were just beginning to experiment with attack columns in the SYW.
Yes, there were sieges in the SYW, but they are so boring to game. You will not find heroic assaults of forts & castles. Much of the action involving sieges revolve around forces attempting to break out or the cutting off of supply lines. If gaming some of the actions around a siege, then Muskets & Shakos would be a good set.
Muskets and Mohawks in my opinion is a set of rules aimed at company level games. Games where each side has about a single battalion per side. I think these rules work best for the conflict in the Americas and the West Indies. But that is just my opinion.

Thanks The background I'm working on is an imagi nation game, provisionally entitled the War of the Ruritanian Sucession. The monarch of said principality has died with two twin heirs, each married to the heir of an adjacent nation. As Rurutania is between the two and controls much of the regions major river system this has resulted in war. I know what you mean about sieges but they seem such a big part of tge period. Ive come across a set called lked ed Vauban which may work, but I'll need to work out how to integrate these with the TWH sets

Have you checked out the Kronoscaf Project Seven Years War site? It has a lot of information about battles, sieges, uniforms, armies, navies, people, equipment, etc. - just about everything related to the Seven Years War. It's my go to resource for the period. link
