When taking infantry checks you roll 2 dice and compare the results to the rep of each character. so a result of 3, and 4 passes any character with a rep of 4 or higher.
* Stars take Reaction Tests just like Grunts.
* Instead of rolling any d6 the Star can choose to
pass 2, 1 or 0d6.
I've re-read this a hundred times and still do not understand.

Does it just mean that the star can take any result they want from the table? If so, why not just say that?

Star Advantages (page 5) are what make Stars different than Grunts. Their advantages are grouped together for ease of play. They are named, like Cheating Death to help players remember them. If they were not there's a chance of missing an advantage. You are correct as they can choose to pass 2, 1, or 0d6 only on Reaction tests and as it says, it applies only to the Star. So, if you choose to roll the d6, you have to accept the roll. Hope this helps.
