Long time miniature gamer (lots of warhammer famtasy and simiar games for ancients as well as FoW). I just recently heard about Nuts! and thought I would give it a try. One of main reason is I live in the Nor Cal mountains (my handle "korvessa" means "in the wilderness") And from what I have read on line it gives a good solo game.
That being said, I have never seen a game played and do not own the rules just yet. Have watched a couple of youtube videos. For me, painting up miniatures comes first, as once I get the rules I will want to dive in right away and can't do that without figs!
So back to the question. My dad was with the 82nd in Normandy (at Timmes Orchard near Merderet river crossing. Trivia: he is mentioned in 3 books that I know of) so I have a fondness for that. So I want to get into US Airborne v. German infantry (91st division). Small scale. Nothing bigger than a platoon.
Getting the main rules is obvious. But what else would I need? The compendium or "Blood upon the Risers?"
Also, if you could clue me in to the reasons for getting one o rthe other and how it would fit into what I want to do. Thanks

The main rules will do you well. If you want more detail for what you're planning, I'd do Blood Upon the Risers. Compendium is great as it adds LOTS of stuff, but I go with Risers only. Oh, there's a 40% off sale going on the THW site through Monday so now would be a great time to get them.
