WHOOT! I finally sat down and played a few encounters of Swordplay! Thus begins the adventures of Olleh the wizard:
Olleh awoke at the normal time, around three hours past sunrise. A wizard of some skill and repute, and haunted by the same human failings as others, he set about his normal tasks on a normal day.
First a meal and then to the market in search of components for his wizardly works. The market, for all it's fanciful colors and chattering hucksters had little to provide for his needs. But the information he gathered while evesdropping on the crowd gave him clues as to the where abouts of a possible source of income for his dwindling purse.
Rocks covered in a certain green fungus, certain beetles infesting specific breeds of tree, when and where certain flowers were blooming, mundane information to be sure, but all a part of what a wizard must know.
To make use of the information gathered, he would need an assistant or two so that he might venture away from town and collect the herbs and roots needed. So, his purse a few coins lighter and his prospects a little brighter, Olleh heads to the taverns and meeting halls where he is most likely to find men for hire.
The first locale, a giant oak in the middle of the town circle where elves are known to lounge about, was empty. The second location, a tavern frequented by dwarves, was closed for repairs. The only surprising thing being the extent of repairs needed. Finally, in another tavern, Olleh finds a dwarf that may wish to join his little adventure. Sadly, the dwarf was so drunk that Olleh could not even be sure the little soldier understood what was being asked of him.
So, after wasting an unproductive and mildly expensive afternoon and evening, Olleh heads home, and is ambushed by three skeletons.
Olleh manages to kill, or re-kill, two skeletons. Both Olleh and the last skeleton leave the fight. Having had such a rotten day, Olleh determines to follow this undead minion and see what profit may be had. The skeleton leads Olleh to a house. upon entering the garden at the rear of the house, Olleh finds a dwarf standing over his prey. The dwarf, Bluntaxe, heard noises in his garden and went to investigate. Now the two investigate the broken remains and find a charm which leads to a temple area.
They decide to investigate together, Olleh to seek profit, Bluntaxe to rid the city of this evil.
==================================================================
I opened an Excel spreadsheet, wrote up the stats for Olleh and added new rows for each decision and die roll so I could keep track of what was going on. Played about 10-15 minutes a night over a few nights and filled in the story as I went. Had some really interesting rolls. Olleh is Neutral, Bluntaxe is Red Sun. The first encounter had 0 elves, 0 dwarves, then 1 dwarf where the interaction went badly so Olleh decided to leave instead of fight. The skeleton attack at night fit pretty well.
Hopefully, there will be more to come!
