Hello! Hoping y'all might be able to help now that I've managed to confuse myself.
I gather that:
- Two units that are both inside a forest, within 12" of each other can see each other.
- A unit within the 1" of the edge of the forest can see (and be seen by) units outside the forest (and inside the forest within 12 inches).
- A unit more than 1" into the forest CANNOT be seen by a unit outside the forest.
What I'm trying to figure out is:
Can the unit more than 1" inside the forest see the unit outside the forest? (As long as there's not more than 12" of forest between them?) Or does the lack of visibility work in both directions?
If the inside unit CAN see out, but can't be seen, would this be the only situation in the game where a (surviving) defender doesn't have the opportunity to return fire?
I appreciate any input!

Line of sight works as follows: "if A can see B, then B can see A." The 12" rule applies to two units within the same forest. This means that the line of sight between the two units is entirely within the same forest. Note that this reduces to 6" at night. If the line of sight between two units enters/exits the forest, then the unit in the forest must be within 1" of the edge of the forest towards the other unit in order to see units outside the forest and be seen. The unit outside the forest can be as far away from the forest as you wish. What may be confusing you is that your statements are combining both the 12" rule and the 1" rule. To keep things simple, you either (1) have a situation where two figures are within the same forest. This is the 12" rule. (2) have a situation where a figure in a forest is within 1" of the edge of a forest and is tracing line of sight to a figure outside the forest. This is the 1" rule. (3) have a situation where one figure is outside the forest traces a line of sight to another figure within a forest that is more than 1" from the edge of the forest. This is the case where neither figure can see the other. Note that vice versa applies to all three cases. -David Hello! Hoping y'all might be able to help now that I've managed to confuse myself. The idea is that inside a wooded area, not much light gets to ground level, so there aren't many plants inside the woods. The edges get enough light so that lots of plants grow on the edges, thus blocking LOS into/out of the woods unless you are on the edge of the woods yourself.
