Thanks. I know some of these are me reading rules but thats the issue with solo gaming - no one to teach them to you.

Yeah, I know what you mean - I play most of my games solo as well and as I gain knowledge of the rules, I discover my opponent has been playing wrong and perhaps even cheating.

Yep, that's why I try to have sites where people can post questions.
