Hey folks,
Just read up on the rules and excited to have my first game this evening. Just a squad vs a squad tonight as recommended.
Wanted to get a feel for how big force sizes should/could realistically be on a 3x3 ft table, with 28mm figs?
I haven't purchased all the figures yet hence asking here first. I dont want to buy a platoons worth of models for both sides if I wont need them..
I realize its my game essentially and I can do as I please. But any thoughts are welcome? I imagine a whole platoon will look quite congested on 3x3?
Single squad and a support weapon or two perhaps? 2 Squads..
Thanks Matt

I have not played many NUTS! games, but from my experience with other 2hr games, that sounds about right, 1-2 squads and maybe some support on a 3x3 ft table. When you know the rules wellm you can handle a platoon, but urban or otherwise very dense terrain is recommended for that, or a larger board.
Greetings Karl Heinz

Here's what I've learned over the years with gaming and talking to real vets. Gunfights occur at close range.
I based THW rules on 1" equals 2 yards in 28mm so I'm good with a 3x3. Now, having said that, I've played on 4x6 tables most of my life and realized that I spent most of the time moving into contact so I went with smaller tables.
I used to own two Lazer Tag arenas in Seattle WA when Lazer Tag first came out - around 1987. Our first arena was 3000 square feet. Our second was 1600. I saw that the players engaged at the same distance in both arenas - about 10 yards. So we closed the first and saved money on rent. LOL
But it is your game so either will work. Use the 3x3 and you'll play more games as they end quicker. Hope this helps.

I usually play on a 4x6 table with up to a platoon per side, and on a 3x3 table keep it to around squad + support level. For C&C interactions I will start using Battle Boards.

Based on recent experience, a whole platoon on 3x3 might be a bit much. Last Sunday I played my first game with 28mm. figs. This scale is the way to go for great skirmish games.
I played on a 4x4 table, and the figs looked great on this size table. With 16in x 16in sections a whole platoon could be easily deployed on the table, even with each squad in line as
opposed to column. Just a thought.

I've played a couple of games on a 4' X 4' table with a full early-mid war Soviet platoon & had room to maneuver. The rifle platoon had 4 12 person squads, a 4 person HQ section & a 5 person MMG section. It was a lot of troops on the board, but it worked well in keeping with Soviet tactics at the time of throwing hordes of people at the Germans. My next game will be a challenge as two of the squads are near half strength & my star Junior Lieutenant has a shortage of NCOs.

I'd say 1" = 4 yards but I don't change ranges or movement when I play.
