I finally got NUTS Big Battles in the WV sale recently, after having regular NUTS for years. Have enjoyed reading through and seeing the subtle changes incorporated to allow playing with bigger forces. Some questions from my initial small test games:
Here goes.
1) On page 6 it refers to the first (and subsequent) "Body" completing all its "actions". Where can I find out more about how many actions a body/unit has when it is activated? Action - done shooting, moving, etc. So I move (action) and come into sight of the enemy. I can resolved the actions on the In Sight table (page 9). When done with all those actions - move, etc. the body has finished its turn.
2) On page 8 under In Sight the rules refer to how to trace a LOS. "An enemy unit can trace a Line of Sight (LOS) to that
unit from the front facing of the rear stand. This still
applies even if that unit is in cover." I'm confused. How do we determine LOS? It is a straight line from what to what? Yes from one stand to the enemy stand, even if it is in cover if it can see out. Like at the edge of the woods.
3) Page 10. In Cover. Says "a stand" when determining cover. So it is based on the particular stand I'm shooting at (not the unit?)? Because I thought you're shooting at the unit, not individual stands in it. Certainly when you cause casualties it isn't to a particular stand you targeted but is just taken from the rear-most stand. The stand is part of the unit and there may be one or more stands in sight. So whatever stand you can see and target. Example Four stands on a hill and only the first stand comes into sight.
4) If I am activating a Body (more than a single platoon) that is in cohesion, when I move, spot, shoot, or the like do I do it by platoon or by the body as a whole? (because the rules refer to "units" in each of those cases) Body as a whole, all units in the body that can spot and shoot.
5) Can transport vehicles move on the turn they load or unload infantry, hitch or un-hitch a gun? They can move opr load/unload, hitch/unhitch.
6) British Vehicles. Page 49. Churchill VII - had a 75mm main gun so should be APR 4 (not 3 as listed). Churchill VIII - this had a 95mm howitzer, is it really given the correct APR? Cromwell III - this had a 6pdr main gun so should be APR 3 (not 4 as listed). Cromwell VIII - this had a 95mm howitzer, is it really given the correct APR? Daimler Armoured Car - this had a 37mm main gun so should be APR 2 (not 4 as listed). Humber IV Armoured Car - this had a 37mm main gun so should be APR 2 (not 4 as listed). M3 GMC - this had a 75mm main gun so should be APR 4 (not 3 as listed). Missing is AEC MkIII Armoured Car (should be 2 W APR-4 Move 16/6) You can adjust these as desired. Sorry if there are errors.
7) German Vehicles. Page 50. There is inconsistency between the APR ratings given towed anti-tank guns and their exact equivalents mounted on German AFVs. For example, the towed 50mm is given an APR of 4, yet the Puma armoured car that mounted this gun is given an APR of 3. One of these is incorrect and I'd like to know which it is. The JagdPanther, Nashorn are given an APR of 7, yet the 88mm towed anti-tank guns have an APR of 6. And so on. Then there are internal inconsistencies amongst AFVs. For example the STUG III and the PzIVG/H have the same gun, yet they have different APR ratings. You can adjust these as desired. Sorry if there are errors.
8) Russian Vehicles. Page 51. The "Large Bore ATR" is given an APR of 3. That makes it more effective than a 37mm main gun of US/British light tanks and armoured cars. Seems unlikely. Suggest APR of 2 at max. Under Russian Anti-Tank Guns the "ZIS-3 Mdl 42 76.2mm" is listed twice with different stats. What is going on here? Missing from Russian ATGs is the well-used 100mm M-1944 (BS-3). It would be good to have the BA-10 Armoured Car included in the vehicle listing. You can adjust these as desired. Sorry if there are errors. I did not do these tables but will take the blame.
Hope this helps.
