Hi THW Family!
I’m interested in the THW rulesets. Especially the reaction system is very nice! But I’m overwhelmed by the amount of products which are available. Which ones are the best ones for my purpose?
My purpose:
One of my favourite boardgames and my favourite space war board game is “Space Empires 4x” with all expansions. It is a massive game but, like THW games, very streamlined to be played fast (for such a game). But there are some points in the game I would like to be more detailed sometimes. Because I’m playing solo very often I’ve searched for a ruleset supporting solo and different scenarios. So I found THW. But which Sci-Fi ruleset fits best for me? 3 Scenarios I want to play more detailed:
1. Space Ship Battles, 1vs.1 up to 50+vs.50+, small scout frigates up to planet destroying titans
2. Boarding of enemy Ships, small skirmishes, different types of infantry
3. Ground Battle, 1vs.1 up to 50+vs.50+, different types of infantry and tanks/mechs
Tanks and Mechs are considered the same in Space Empires. It would be great if they had different stats but balanced. But I think this is totaly up to me, creating a units table which recognizes that
I have read the free 2018 rules of Chain Reaction and like them. At the moment I’m reading 2015 version. looks like it is a lot more detailed. Which maybe fits more for my purpose because I want some rules for movement. In Space Empires there is no movement in battle. Yes that’s awesome for fast and streamlined battles, but sometimes I want to outmanoeuvre a superior enemy. If there is no movement the rules of Space Empires would suffice.
I have seen that there is one special ruleset for each of my scenarios. But do I really need three different ones? Or is there one which fit all? Or at least two sets? Or is there one good to start with and then some specialized ones to expand it later?
Give me your experience!
