I recently got back into 6mm wargames and already being a fan of THW games (Nuts and ATZ) MaS is the way forward for me.
Any tips on how the game works? I’ll be fielding full 6mm units to play the game. Hoping for lots of manoeuvring, formation changes, deadly volleys, desperate charges, valiant cavalry and hero units and one or two individual Officers and soldiers.
this is all planned for a weird war version of seven years war mixed with elves and other assorted peoples!
As you probably know, Muskets & Shakos is a Napoleonic set of rules which can be adapted to the Seven Years War with a few tweaks. It can be played as either a company level game or a battalion level game. At the company level, your units represent companies and at the battalion level your units represent battalions & cavalry units represent squadrons. You can't use these rules to play huge battles such as Luethen or Minden, but you can use them to play smaller engagements or parts of a major battle such as the right wing of Minden, etc.
The army lists are for the Napoleonic Wars, but again, can be easily adapted - Most infantry will be Rep 4, for instance, with Guatd units & Grenadiers at Rep 5 - Militias and garrison troops at Rep 3. Cavalry is a little trickier - Guard & Horse Grenadiers at Rep 5 & all others at Rep 4 except for mounted jagers, which are Rep 3 when mounted & Rep 4 when fighting dismounted. Dragoons & light horse can fight dismounted - Heavy horse didn't fight on foot unless they were surprised in their camp.
