I rolled up my section - German infantry. Section of 6, 3 rep 5 including me, 3 rep 4.
i rolled up the battlefield, on the left a building with a hill behind, centre and right open ground with 2 woods behind each. I moved on to the battlefield on the left, hiding behind the building. I rolled for a PEF, which turned into 3 infantry using the C&C table. I rolled in sight test using my commander, I won. The LMG fired through the window, causing a death and 2 duck backs. The rest of the squad did not fire because of the duck backs (I have now read a clarification on another thread).
This was all before the first turn - deploy battlefield, move on, then roll initiative. I rolled for the 3 PEFs, 1 in the middle and 2 centre rear. I had discovered with the first PEF the enemy were on assault.
i rolled initiative and won. seeing that the enemy were cowering away from the shooting, my leader ordered a charge into the building. 2 combats of 2 v1, but you apply the single combatant roll against all enemies. This meant my leader put his opponent out of the fight, but my 3 other men went out of the fight due to good enemy roll. That they were ducking back didn’t seem to affect the combat, though they did not fire as I charged I assumed.
the nearest PEF became visible as nothing, but the second one was the remainder of the squad - 7. I won the in sight test and fired. The grenade launcher missed, while if he had thrown it this would have an effect, if fired it didn’t seem to. The section counted the odds at this point - 3 vs 7, in the open against enemy in cover - and decided to withdraw and report to the platoon commander - presumable leaving 3 injured men in the building.
ok, how many mistakes with the rules? And do you usually return from a patrol missing most of your section?!! I know it might have been a good idea to put a grenade in the building before charging, but I was feeling the pressure of the other PEFs advancing.
also, what does your terrain look like? There doesn’t seem to be an option for e.g. hedged fields, or rocky outcrops to hide behind, it is either open or wooded. I know it is a toolbox and I can adapt, just wondering what all of you do.
