A few questions after a couple of small practice battles with the rules 1 Does anyone use rules concerning infantry small arms v open topped vehicles? 2 Does anyone use special rules concerning sniper figures on the table? 3 In my last game I had a section of British paras with a piat defending a walled farm and they were supported by a 6pdr anti tank gun which was being engaged by a pz111. The piat was not in range, due to the insight checks would the paras have to perform duck back being outgunned by the pz111? 4 When AT gun crews have to perform duck backs do they just go prone around their AT gun? Cheers Leigh

If you're playing on 3x3 playing surface and are measuring in inches, I don't see much point of using a sniper. That said, there is the attribute Crack Shot that let's you roll 2d6 with a BA rifle or 3d6 if prone with said BA rifle. Seems like anyone getting that attribute in your squad could act as a sniper.
I have a feeling the Compendium has something about snipers in it.

Hi K07,Yes I am aware of the Crack Shot ability,I am just wondering if anyone has done sniper specific rules for the game,Could not really see anything regarding this in the compendium. Cheers Leigh

Hey leigh, Attribute Table 10 on pg. 4 in the Compendium has a Sniper attribute giving a +1 to Rep when firing one shot. Try that out and see how you like it. You could also use that as a +1 when rolling to hit or a +1 when rolling damage depending on how you want to play it.

Thanks fenris07,Have looked at the compendium stats for the sniper ability, the rules are quite modable so I may well add a few things regarding to them in our games. Cheers Leigh

Yes, open topped armored vehicles like a halftrack provide cover for infantry inside. If it's an unarmored vehicle like a truck, then that provides just concealment. And of course, you can lob a grenade into it like normal since it's open topped.
I play that situationally, with the crew going to whatever cover makes the most sense. That is -- is the ATG being fired on by a tank gun? The crew will probably abandon the gun and seek cover since the tank's main gun can blast through the gun shield and/or area effect HE can kill them all. If it's small arms or LMG/MMG fire they may duck back behind the gun shield, go prone, etc. So I guess if the ATG is being attacked by an enemy that can defeat the armor rating of the gun shield (if there is one), they will probably abandon the gun, otherwise the gun shield is the best place to shelter behind -- prone makes sense.

Thanks Easy Eight, The crew retiring from the gun due to HE does make sense-I remember reading an aar on Pieper at the gates (think it may have been one of yours) where the American infantry fired at a German tank commander who was exposed and forced the tank to button up, which I thought was a great thing to happen in a game.Cheers Leigh

Yeah that was the Peiper at the Gates scenario at Stavelot. We used a lot of stuff from the Compendium, and in that case the 57mm ATG was set up concealed to try and Ambush units coming down the road from the forest.. So when the Panther came nosing out of the woods, as a player I knew my ATG couldn't hurt it frontally, so I wanted to wait until it turned to follow the road and I could flank-shot it...made my Ambush test (Compendium p.15)...both sides basically made an opposing roll, and I blew it and got "Ambusher score is equal or less than ambushed." So my 57mm ATG team was over eager or panicked and immediately fired, the shot bounced off the Panther....which then blew my ATG crew apart with return fire...you don't always get to control what your figures do in NUTS... sbminisguy.wordpress.com/2019/12/23/nuts-peiper-at-the-gates-aar-stavelot/

Hi,
I also believe the Stalingrad book offered a sniper scenario too. I’ll try and look at it tonight.
