Hello, I've recently discovered Nuts! on a french solo player group (better late than never). I'm very interested in Nuts! since i wanted but never had the chance to play miniatures games about WWII. How many scenarios there is in the rulebook and are they linked to some specific theatre with specific listz of troop or it's generic and you can play what you want (for example if the scenario is : "go to the farm on the other side and secure it", it can be played on normandy, russia or somewhere else ?). For a "standard game" how many minis do i need on each side ? I'm interested in the "band of brother" starter set for bolt action (don't plan to play this game but the set seems cool)...is it enough to play Nuts! or after a few game i will be limited ? How long is approximatively a game ? Thank you (and i apologize for my bad english ^^) !

Hello, Here goes.I've recently discovered Nuts! on a french solo player group (better late than never). There are three Missions - Patrol Attack Defend. How you do in one Mission dictates the next. There is an easy to use campaign system that tracks how well a side is doing and when the lose and win. The basic rules have American, British, German and Russian lists. If you add Compendium to NUTS you can play any army in any theater. There are some scenario books out there as well and more to come as they are being updated. For a "standard game" how many minis do i need on each side ? You start as a Squad leader but can got larger as you learn the rules. So 12 or so figures to start. I'm interested in the "band of brother" starter set for bolt action (don't plan to play this game but the set seems cool)...is it enough to play Nuts! or after a few game i will be limited ? You'll never be limited becasue you never know what you will run into and how it will play out. Kind of like real life. You will know what you start with but the enemy is generated randomly using PEFs - Possible Enemy Force markers. Here are some Bat Reps. It says Final Version but is similar to current 4th Edition which is a bit moire streamlined to get to the same results.
How long is approximatively a game ? From 30 minute to an hour. Easy to play 3 fights in less than 2 hours.Thank you (and i apologize for my bad english ^^) ! Not needed. LOL, much better than my French!
Hope this helps.

Most of my games and campaigns involve my core squad, and sometime their whole platoon. So at most you should need a platoon per side, and add vehicles as you have them. As long as they make sense for the mission. Most of the time you'll be infantry vs infantry, perhaps a tank or two depending on the reinforcement rolls or the mission. So my own collection non 28mm is based around a platoon of us, german, Soviet, etc.

I'm on the other side of the spectrum when I play Nuts!, my squad is never more than 8 figures. I've also tweaked the PEF resolution and reinforcement tables to generate +3 or -3 figures than my squad on the table. I prefer the lower amount of figures for faster play and a more personal narrative.

I'm another who usually plays with about a half squad (around 6-8) and use my own reinforcement tables. When I first bought Nuts!2E, I loved the mechanics but was intimidated by the fact that I didn't have enough figures or any of the vehicles in the Reo lists. It took me a little while to realise that I didn't have to play that way, that I could just make my own lists and play at whatever level of engagement that I wanted - then the game really came to life for me.

I agree. With a few tweaks here and there you can really make the game your own. When I see an idea from a war movie, I'll try to implement it into into Nuts!

I read the book and then ended up working with a guy that was in the 101st back then. Real quiet guy, never said much then saw me reading the book and opened up. You could tell by his emotion when speaking about it that he was telling the truth.

On another forum some guy was asking me about Nuts! and if the rules could recreate the scene in Saving Private Ryan where the Americans faced off with the German squad when the wall separating them fell down. I mentioned that Nuts! can simulate that situation by using the "Draw" rules from Six Gun Sound. I've implemented that possibility into my games when entering a building.

The Draw mechanic is very useful and creates lots of tension.
