If your characters are poorly educated cotton farmers trying to survive in West Texas & the Texas Panhandle, I can tell you what they sounded like. I just have to close my eyes and remember my parents and grandparents.

I’ll keep that in mind. My characters may visit Texas at one point.
Today, I wrote a 3200 word chapter describing a Smokers event, and I’m not even done with the chapter!

Good luck to you both!
I’ve always felt that I have a short story in me based within the Cthulhu Mythos. One day I will start it and I think its going to be within the next year. I don’t think I’m up to any strict time limit yet tho...

Well, we’re at the midpoint of NaNo. How’s the writing going? I managed to turn a 1 scene chapter into a 6 chapter subplot. 15 days down and 15 to go.

Crossed the finish line with 50,800 words. I can also add more here and there. I’m just glad it’s done because Word kept declaring my fikes Read Only on me.

It doesn't seem to let you log graphics work -- making lots of maps for the campaign books, but they don't seem to count.

I know there's a couple of hours left, but I'm going to call it quits at 37,539 words. I think I have the start of a good story, but this NaNoWriMo was hard.
It was hard writing about a far future without using any 21st century cliches or references. I wanted to give the work a Cyberpunk vibe, but almost all Cyberpunk literature is near future and not thousands of years away, thus most of the 80s terminology didn't make sense for the far future. Come to think of it, much of the 80s view of the future doesn't make sense in today's world.
Anyway, I found writing about a plausible distant future in detail was hard. I also had to change the way I write, before this month I wrote only 500 to 700 words a day. I've had to learn how to write 3,000 words a day, which was really really hard to do on some days.
Maybe next year will be better.

Great job! A lot of people don't even get that far, so 37k for your first year is excellent. Heck, just attempting it is an achievement itself. And 2-3k a day is pretty much what I did, and I agree, it's tough. If you're happy with your story, keep with it.
And again, congrats!

Sorry I'm coming to the post late, but great job, Radiated Lady! (See what I did there?) Funnily enough, I use GURPS extensively while writing. The sourcebooks and resources that the system - toolbox, really - provides is second-to-none. I'm glad to not be the only one doing that. I was going to do NaNoWriMo this year but decided against it as what's written is usually just a springboard for the project. That, and writing for a whole month with a fountain pen won't produce the needed word count.
Anywho, great job! Don't let this month go by without looking at what you accomplished and, just maybe, adding to it!
