I have been wondering whether or not anyone uses CR to play other miniature games? I have miniature games (such as Infinity, Beyond the Gates of Antares) that I would like to play but no one around here plays.
Anyone do this and have any suggestions? Which version of CR would I use, which parts to leave out (such as movement rules), etc.?
Thanks.

I have tried to use THW in other wargames, for example with IHMN, I used the Pluck value as Reputation, rolling 1D10. When I wanted to activate a miniature I rolled D10 and checked if the score was under the Pluck value.
With SoB&H something similar the Quality skill was used as Reputation...
But, at the end and finished using THW for everything.

I'm the worse person to answer this, but I've always been too lazy to make another game fit into CR or make CR fit into another game. Usually it is only the games background (aesthetic) or one or two rules that I really like, so it has been always much easier for me to play a 5150 game. For example, in place of playing Cyberpunk 2020 or GURPS Space, I play 5150: No Limits and in in place of playing Infinity or Warhammer 40K, I play 5150: Missions.
The THW games have always been priced low enough that I could just purchase the THW game that best fitted what I wanted to play rather than doing all of the work with CR. I know there ar some that like doing all of the conversion work, but I guess I'm too lazy.

Wouldn't be hard I think, just swap out likes for like - Shooting for Shooting, Will to Fight for Morale checks.

I've used Warrior Heroes-Legends for the combat while playing D&D Solo Modules. (BSolo1-Ghost of Lion Castle & XSOLO2-Thunderdelve Mountain) I just went through the modules and converted the Monsters before I started and used the modules for the story. It would probably work even better with the new battle board version Swordplay actually. I'm also using the campaign system from 5150-Star Navy to generate battles for a 1906 Early WW1 naval game using Majestic Twelve Games Grand Fleets 3 for the tactical fights. You have to do some work and decide what parts to use and how to integrate them together but it works pretty well.

Thanks I think its timely to mention that a bestiary for Talomir Tales is in the works I believe. Tho I haven’t used chain reaction to play other games I certainly bought zombicide to enhance my ATZ games. I can make a 3x3 board map and that’s perfect. For what it’s worth I’ve used many, many different solo roleplaying systems and every time I come back to THW. A big realisation I’ve had recently is that as fun as it is to mess around with different systems I am playing a whole lot less when I keep restlessly searching out and trying new solo rpg’s. So I’m sticking with the one ever reliable system that works for me - THW.

bekosh the D&d topic sounds very interesting, could you give us a sample about how do you convert the D&d creatures into THW games? Thanks Here's how I did the Monster conversions. These are based off the old Basic/Expert sets. Determining the Rep of a monster Use the following table to determine the Reputation of a monster. If the Hit Dice number is the highest in the range AND has a + modifier, increase to the next higher Reputation. (HD 3+1 becomes Rep 4) DnD Hit Dice | Reputation | <1 | 2 | 1-3 | 3 | 4-6 | 4 | 7-9 | 5 | 10-12 | 6 | 13-15 | 7 |
Determining the Armor Class of a monster Use the following table to determine the Armor Class of a monster. DnD AC | WHL AC | Armor equivalent | 10-6 | 2 | No armor or leather | 5-4 | 4 | Chain Mail | 3-2 | 6 | Plate Mail | 1> | 8 | Magical |
Then you can add abilities from WHL or other THW titles. Here are a couple that I used. Hobgoblin Warrior (1HW), Rep 3, AC2, Brawler, Dim, Resolute Bugbear (2HW), Rep 4, AC4, Brawler, Dim, Resolute, Quick Reflexes Giant Tiger Beetle, Rep 4, AC4, Animal, Grasping, Steady, Stout Animal and Grasping were Abilities I made up for unintelligent but aggressive creatures. Animal: An unintelligent creature that only reacts by instinct. Is never subject to People challenges or Man Down tests. May never use a weapon but always counts as having an improvised weapon. Grasping: If the creature scores more successes than its opponent in melee it will grasp its opponent with its tentacles/mandibles/arms. If the damage result is Push Back, the retiring figure will instead remain next to the creature and the creature will receive a +2d6 bonus in the next melee with that figure.

I use CR2015 for my solo Modern Theatre games (Afghanistan, Iraq, Afrika etc) that I would play face-to-face with Force on Force.

I’ve mentioned it around here before..I’ve been tinkering around with a Sci-fi RPG w several game elements in it. ICRPG and mythic for a base mechanism..Fighter Command for all space combat. And finally using a KDM mechanic for a brutal yet thematic battle w off world creatures.

The great thing about wargaming is that you are free to mx and match figures and rules as you see fit. CR is great for using you Infinity, Antares, and GW figs- all together if you want! You can tinker with the rules to get them how you like. Generally, most figures can be broadly categorized by function and don't need a bunch of fiddly rules. Are they notably fast, armored, accurate, etc.? 5150 is probably your best bet for a baseline to work from.

Absolutely CR can (and should) be used to play in campaigns that originally had other rules: even before ATZ was ideal for anything with zombies.
