The ghost town of Tascosa was a wild and wooly cowtown - a lot of familiar names passed through, Charles Goodnight, Billy the Kid, Pat Garrett, Bat Masterson, Temple Houston to name a few. I review the book Maverick Town on the blog. Maverick Town

From 12 to 16 years old, we lived in Pampa, TX, so we got to go to all the Old West locations in the area. Though most didn't have much of anything then, it was sobering to go to the abandoned locations within 150 miles. Though born in Louisiana with a great heritage of a 1725 ancestor arrival, I greatly treasure living from age 2 halfway through 16 in Texas. It formed my personality.

Very little of the Old West is preserved in Texas, though most Texas towns & cities are proud of their Old West heritage. I need to get up into that far Northern section of the Panhandle some day, especially to see the remnants of Adobe Walls. I'm afraid the furtherest North I've been in the state is Amarillo.
I've been to most of the sites in West Texas - Fort Concho, Fort Davis, Fort Richardson, Blanco Canyon, Yellow House Canyon, Palo Duro Canyon, Van Horne's Wells, Wild Rose Pass, the Lost Valley and the Big Spring.
