Since I own all the 5150 rpg games and really enjoy them, I was wondering if anyone over there ever thought of creating a surfing game? I have tried to come up with ideas in my Traveller and GURPS Humanx games but have been unsuccessful. I was just wanting to see if anyone had any ideas that I have not considered. I noticed that there are several sports games at THW but I haven't bought them. That's what got me to thinking that maybe the THW system might work with a surfing competition. I am thinking of the surfing competitions on Dis, in case you are wondering. That water world has always captured my imagination.
Reference from AlanDeanFoster.com:
Dis (H Class I) Four large moons: Cerberus, Charon, Pluto, and Chetani. Every three years they line up with the sun to create the surf condition known as the Monster of Dis. Gravity slightly less than T-standard, which enhances the effect.

hmmm...I'm not into surfing that much (waves around here top out around 2 feet). But I'm thinking of a few tests: 1. paddling out: no problems / bad timing (miss the next wave) / winded (miss the next 2 waves) 2. committing: no problems / bad timing (ride the wave, but have fewer chances for tricks) / missed it, go back to the paddling out test 3. tricks: perfect score, can try again / almost, score points but must spend time recovering for next trick / flubbed it, roll on the wipe out table 4: wipe out: able to recover / wiped out, swim to shore / wiped out, roll on the how bad is it table 5: how bad is it: no lasting effects / lost board, broken bones / broken bones, drowned
You paddle out, commit to a wave, then roll for tricks until you wipe out or the wave ends (probably need to run a counter when the wave starts for max number of tricks that you have time for). The how bad is it table needs work, depending on how dangerous the area is.

I'd use the tests stryderg listed using a Challenge Test versus Rep for each test. Pass 2d6 = Success Pass 1d6 = Retry but count pass 1d6 as pass 0d6. Pass 06 = Failure.
