While I have a laser printer and heavy stock paper at home I can only print in black-and-white. Is there a good source for SciFi counters somewhere (print-on-demand or otherwise - a boardgame that comes with good counters)? I've been using meeples which works shockingly well but I'd like to have counters for ease of travel. (I did get the counters from the 5150 NB Kickstarter which were helpful to start my collection but I'd like a lot more.) Ideally I'm looking for individual counters: smugglers, bounty hunters, gangs, etc. Having a few sets of security forces, mercy, and military troops would be nice but I mostly play in the New Beginnings milieu rather than Star Army, etc.
(I wouldn't mind printing black-and-white at home and just coloring it myself even but I find most of the counter sets are clearly designed to printed in color.. they would translate poorly to greyscale "line art".)

Hi.
This involves more work but its how I mostly do it. If you have decent PDF software you're good to go.
1. First you create or google a sheet with a one inch grid on it.
2. Next Google something like 'sci fi characters deviant art'. You'll be inundated with some great art. save what you like. 3. Paste each character into a square on the PDF. It helps if you have guides on to line things up nicely. You need to concentrate on only the upper half of the character else it will look too small when printed. Try to avoid characters with backgrounds as they muddy the counter. Once you have one character you like you can then paste multiples for gangs of goons.
I don't re-sell anything and very rarely do I share with anyone to respect the artists. Plus I'm only using a small section of the art. This satisfies my conscience at least ;-)
I realise this isnt for everyone but it helps when I cant find what I want. A case in point was Zhu zhu. They were difficult images to find!
A more legit work flow involves buying a PDF of paper minis from someone like Okum Arts . Then doing the same as above. When I buy it I don't share it.
Onto the black & white issue.
I printed my counters and minis at home for a while but it was expensive in terms of ink. I now send all my stuff to an online printer. I reckon its either cheaper or the same price whilst higher quality.
I hope this helps.
