One thing that's been on my mind a while (and my mind sifts through a lot of random crap, little of which sticks) is combining Star Navy and Battalion Commander for planetary invasions, with a heavily modified version of the RRtK campaign system determining belligerents. After all, the drop ships have to get to the planet, and the planet's controlling force might want to oppose them.
For example - a fleet might need to run a blockade before the troop ships can enter the atmosphere, then 5150:BC takes over for surface combat.
Does anybody have any advice on my selection of titles for this? Are there any newer titles better suited? Does the scope of this project suggest I've gone over the edge?

I do this myself. Either Star Navy or Fleet Commander will work fine. I use Fleet Commander myself. Just allocate one infantry unit per ship so when it gets destroyed, you know who you lost.

That sounds pretty cool. I generated some materials for Star Marine that were out of scope of the book. Here's a Star Marine TOE based around a Star Marine Expeditionary Unit (SMEU). The SMEU is the primary organization of most Star Marine forces. It is a complete, self-contained regimental-sized Strike Force capable of engaging in virtually any combat environment. It is comprised of an “organic” mix of Assault Transports with Fighter and Dropship support, and a full range of combined arms (Infantry, Armor, Artillery) and support units (logistics). Cheers!
