Perhaps this post should start with a face palm.
Here goes.
I've played some games of Warrior Heroes Warbands as part of an on going RPG Lite "campaign." I never used the social level advancement mechanic until now. With a "player who would be king," now I am.
So my read is that to advance a social level (and command more troops) when you are at level 1, any success will advance you. Because you need to roll 1 or higher on a d3, which always happens.
That's great. It means a 3 in 3 chance of advance at level 1, a 2 in 3 chance of advance at level 2 and a 1 in 3 chance of advance at level 3. Yep.
On the other hand any failure will drop you a level when you roll less than your current level. You can't roll less than 1 on a d3 so there is a 0 in 3 chance to drop level from level 1, a 1 in 3 chance to drop level from level 2, and a 2 in 3 chance to drop level from level 3. Yep.
That means that once you rise from low standing to middle standing you can never drop back. Perhaps that is the intent, but the rules discuss dropping from level 1 of a higher class down to level 3 of a lower class. That's an error on my part.
it seems like dropping when you roll less than or equal to your current level would set this right. That would mean failure drops you a level 3 in 3 times at level 3 (hey you better be good at that point), 2 in 3 times at level 2 and only 1 in 3 times at level 1. It would allow the drop back. That would work. Give it a try but makes sense to me..
