I'm finally able to turn my short attention span back to my Seven Years' War campaign using Muskets & Shakos. I'm gaming the Allied Winter Offensive in West Germany (Feb. - April 1758) and I need to establish Investment Levels for the campaign.
The French are facing the bulk of the Allied army on their left, a small Allied force in their center and a small Prussian Army on their right.
Since the Alllied army is still organizing & equipping itself as they go on the offensive I think their Controling and Contesting Investment Levels should be a 3.
The French, heaven only knows what is up with the French, are still in winter quarters with most of its officers, both senior & junior, away in Paris. In fact, it seems the French won't take the allies seriously until after their defeat at Krefeld in June. So, for that reason, French indifference, I'm placing their Controling and Contesting Investment Levels at a 3.
The small Prussian army is under the capable command of Prince Heinrich. He doesn't have the crack Prussian troops, his brother Frederick the Great has those, but he has a competent army. With Prince Henry's tactical abilities, I think the Prussian Controling Investment level should be a 4 and the Contesting Investment Level should be a 3.
Does this sound about right?

It looks like very interesting, Are you going to use as many miniatures as in the colonial wars of Africa of your other posts?

The largest battle in the winter campaign was the storming of Hoya, which pitted 4 Allied infantry battalions, 2 companies of grenadiers, 2 sqdns of Dragoons & 3 sqdns of light horse against 2 French infantry battalions, 4 companies of grenadiers & 3 sqdns of Dragoons - about 300 10mm figures plus 6 battalion guns, limbers & supply wagons for the largest battle of the campaign. .
This was certainly an active period for the "petite guerre" of "klienkrieg" with most engagements involving 1 or 2 battalions of infantry accompanied by a single squadron of cavalry & companies of jagers. - most battles will be about 40 to 50 figures per side.

Ah OK, I thought that you were going to play in 28mm similar to the way you played African Colonial period. But I continue loving watch the photos of the encounter

I don't have a large table to game on, so it made sense in both size & cost to use a smaller scale of miniatures. I wanted to do 6mm, but 10mm had a more complete range. The cost was important in that I can get 30 infantry for around $5.
