A few years ago, maybe more than a few years ago, I was invited to join a group playing THW's Colonial Adventures. If a question came up during game play, one of the guys would e-mail Ed & we'd have the answer the next time we played.
The other night at the Lone Star Game Expo, I was playing a game of Morale Napoleon hosted by Justo Perez (another local game master legend) and the question came up - "Can artillery pivot & fire in the same turn?", the argument was that pivoting really wasn't movement in the player's mind. Justo without missing a beat said "I don't know let's find out." By the start of the next turn Ed had sent us a text with the answer. Wow, that's game support when you can ask the game designer a question & get an answer back in 10 minutes.
If you like playing with counters, you would have loved this game. Justo printed out labels for the units, commanders, etc. using the traditional military map symbols and stuck them to miniature Jenga blocks. It was brilliant.
As a side note, every time I've played in on of Justo's games, he always asks "How can we get Ed to come back to Dallas & run a game?" He asks that almost as much as "How come no one is running an ATZ game this year?"

I saw his photos in the Facebook group - Solitaire Wargaming. He did a fantastic job making a table top for it and adapting MN to Jenga blocks.

You know what? I'll run All Things Zombie next year. I will however continue to be a curmudgeon and use my first edition book cause I still like those rules best. I know I say every year that 2 Hour Wargames is great to play but I'm not big on running it at a convention but I'll bite the bullet and tell anyone that has issues with reactions tests to just blow away in the wind like a dried up fig leaf. I should probably even break my other thing of when I run ATZ at the game stores (it's been a awhile) and make it competitive rather than cooperative. Have two gangs battling it out for some resources and waking the zombies up.

What makes you feel old is when someone at a convention is running an old set rules & all of the other players are saying the rules came out before they were born & you realize it was your senior year in high school when the rules came out.
Especially the board game crowd - those old battered copies of Avalon Hill games seem to always have a full table of gamers.

Thanks for sitting in on the Origins of World War II. That one kind of flops around without at least four players. Last year my game of Kremlin completely flopped out so they don't always make. I do make sure to run one or two oldies. Had another guy walk by and sit in on Dungeonquest cause he was excited it was my old battered 1980's version with missing pieces, dog eared cards, and unpainted minis. Yeah, Ed, the 2005 copy is still my favorite. It's kind of like AD&D in that I still gravitate towards 1st edition cause I know it so well by heart. I did make a big step and actually get Warhammer RPG 4th edition at the convention and actually like the changes they made on my first read through. But every time I run the 2005 version I feel real nostalgic and remember when I ditched 40K and a lot of IP specific games to go my own way. I start out explaining the rules and going you are Rep 5, as long as you remember the number 5 we're going to have fun. Seriously, a couple games of FFO and my kids were like, dad, it doesn't work like that in this one you're thinking of the old rules. For the record I still like the original 5150 best cause it reminds me of McEwan's Star Guard only cool and playable (not to disparage SG but it's totally a product of its time). 5150 opened my eyes that there was no optimization, points lists, bust out whatever miniatures you had and stat them up as you think they should be. Sorry, hijacking the thread.

Hey twogunbob,
Start the game out as co-op: teams working together to find (resources, people, or info). Half way through, bring in something else to make it competitive: "Good job finding (X), now the first group to get (X) off this side of the board gets a free copy of the rules". Mayhem and mass carnage will ensue.
Ed's done that a few times, once with 20 people playing an ATZ game. Guess who found the VIP and got taken out by the very first grenade thrown after the announcement. <raises hand>

Lone Star Games Expo had a really good turnout. I’m planning to run a two games next year. At least one will be THW.
